Hegseth's Firings: Cuts or Loyalty?

David’s question: “Hi Eve, I want to learn more about Pete Hegseth and what is going on with all the general firings.”

Eve: “The broader pattern is that Hegseth has been thinning the senior ranks since day one. Critics call it politicization — purging officers seen as insufficiently loyal to the administration's worldview. Supporters say the post-9/11 era bloated the flag officer corps and that trimming it restores civilian control. The honest read is probably both: some cuts are legitimate restructuring, and the speed plus the leak-investigation framing suggests loyalty is doing real work too.”
