Nation-State Law: Locking In the Majority

David’s question: “How does the law support a two-thirds Jewish majority?”

Eve: “It doesn't directly. The mechanism for that is the Law of Return from nineteen fifty, which lets any Jew immigrate and become a citizen automatically. Article five of the Nation-State Law just elevates that to Basic Law status — Israel shall be open to Jewish immigration and the ingathering of exiles. So it's less about creating the majority and more about locking it in constitutionally so a future Knesset can't easily repeal it.”
